Even after the irrigation department is providing sufficient water supply to the city,the Pune Municipal Corporation on Tuesday announced that it was bringing down the water cut from 40 per cent to 20 per cent.
The water cut has been reduced to 20 per cent after the improvement of water supply. The civic administration conducted a trial to increase the water distribution after the sufficient supply was resumed by Irrigation department, Narendra Salunkhe,deputy city engineer (Water),said.
The decision on water supply on alternate days has already been withdrawn, he said adding the water will only be available one time in the day as against the earlier two times a day.
Though there is sufficient water discharged in the canal,Salunkhe said the PMC was not lifting the entire quota as per the understanding with the irrigation department.
The irrigation department has officially not conveyed that it would continue to supply the required water for the city as the dams storage has not reached its capacity,he said.
The PMC had been under criticism from political parties and citizens for not providing sufficient water despite availability.
Meanwhile,there will not be any water supply to parts of the city on July 30 due to the urgent technical work at Warje pumping station. The area to be affected include Paud Road,Bhusari colony,Shastrinagar,Bavdhan,Bhugaon road,Sus Road,Baner,Balewadi,Pashan,Warje,Karvenagar,Dahanukar colony,Gandhi Bhavan,Mahatma Society,Vidyanagar,Dhanori,Kalas and Vimanagar.
The total storage capacity in the four reservoirs supplying water to the city is now 18.25 TMC. This brings the perentage of the water stored in Panshet,Varasgaon,Temghar and Khadakwasla to 65 percentage of the total capacity.
Panshet dam has achieved storage of 64 per cent,Temghar has achieved storage of 88 per cent,Varasgaon has reached 56.5 per cent while Khadakwasla has achieved 100 per cent. The discharge from Khadakwasla spillway was at the rate of 856 cusecs. The rainfall in the catchments areas has reduced considerably in the last two days. On Tuesday,the rainfall in Panshet was 9 mm,in Temghar it was 16 mm,in Varasgaon it was 16 mm while there was no rain in Khadakwasla.
