With only 281 out of 612 colleges affiliated to the University of Pune having fulltime principals, the varsity has issued a fresh notice to colleges to fill up the vacant posts as soon as possible. If the colleges fail to fill up the posts before May 31,they will not be allowed to take fresh students from 2010-11.
The issue of vacant posts of principals was raised in the senate meeting of the varsity held last month. The then acting vice chancellor of UoP Arun Adsool had said that the varsity would issue a reminder,as the deadline was coming close. Accordingly the deputy registrar of academic section of the varsity has issued a fresh notice to all the colleges on April 8. The deadline is set by the government through a resolution issued on January 30 and if colleges do not abide by it,they will not be allowed to admit fresh students, says the notice. The notice also reminds the colleges to fill the vacant posts of college teachers.
