At least 25 daily wage labourers of Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) were detained when they tried to immolate themselves outside Gate No 2 of the university Tuesday while demanding fixed wages,police said.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul said that the government said they are open to a discussion but they will not let him speak as they are “scared” of him. New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who are facing sedition charges for allegedly raising anti-national slogans, surrendered before the Delhi Police last night. Following a medical check-up, the two were interrogated on Wednesday for around five hours and will be presented before the magistrate later in the day. Khalid and Bhattacharya are among the five students who, along with JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, had allegedly shouted anti-national slogans at an event organised in the university campus on February 9.

New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): Five students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, including Umar Khalid, who were being looked by the police for making ‘anti-national’ statements on the campus earlier, surfaced at the varsity on Sunday. The five students, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rama Naga, Ashutosh Kumar and Anant Prakash, had gone missing since February 12 after JNU Student Union president leader Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on sedition charges. Khalid was seen addressing over 200 students outside the administration block on Sunday night. Police teams have been positioned outside the University and have been asked to wait for the students to surrender themselves.
New Delhi, Jan 21 (ANI): Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Thursday attacked Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Smriti Irani for “lying” and giving “false” information to the nation about the Dalit scholar suicide case. Randeep said both Irani and her Cabinet colleague Bandaru Dattatreya should be sacked immediately for allegedly putting pressure on the university to suspend five Dalit students, including Rohith Vemula who committed suicide.He added that this shows that BJP and its government can go to any extent to support their people.
New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): President of All India Mahila Congress Shobha Oza on Saturday condemned the ruling party of politicising educational institutes to fulfill its political aspirations. She said that the Films and Television Institute of India (FTII) and now Delhi University (DU), are its latest arenas. Oza accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramaniam Swamy for bringing various controversial issues in the DU. She further said that the Vice Chancellor of the university should take a note of it and stop such things within the university.
