They say charity begins at home. This is also applicable to the ‘green’ cause that people feel for. With the aim of creating awareness about gardening among people,Water Smart Pot celebrated Terrace Garden Day recently at S M Joshi Hall. The event was attended by people from different walks of life, joined by their common passion for gardening. Water Smart Pot was founded by Dr Pravin Chordia in 2010 to correct the drawbacks in gardening systems and to provide valuable guidance to those interested in gardening. Gardening plays an important role in improving the environment and also helps us connect with nature thereby rejuvenating us, Chordia explained. A special workshop, demonstration and exhibition were held on the occasion. Sumit Chuttar,son-in-law of Chordia, along with Gaurav Chordia, conducted a workshop wherein they guided participants and demonstrated the right techniques for gardening of vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants. Due to lack of space and time in the big cities, people can rarely take up gardening as a hobby, said Chuttar. The new technique of Water Smart Pot containing separate compartments for organic soil and water has shown good results growth of plants, multiple cropping and other benefits. The main attraction of the exhibition held at the event was the huge number of guavas, mangoes and vegetables in a water smart pot.
