Coming together for the first time to form a registered body,60 cardiac surgeons from across Maharashtra launched The Deccan Cardiovascular Club on April 21. A conference titled Cardiac Surgery Past,Present and Future,was conducted on the occasion in association with Indian Medical Association,Pune,and the Grant Medical Foundation,Pune. Dr Maya Tulpule,president of IMA Pune,and Dr Prakash Marathe,secretary IMA Pune,inaugurated the conference and commended cardiovascular surgeons in the city for taking the initiative. A patient who undergoes the procedure can be discharged from the hospital in four days and can resume normal work within two weeks. The occasion was marked by the felicitation of professor A V Kanetkar and professor S G Bhate for their work over the last 40 years.
Special Mention
Dwidal Remedial Centre for children with multiple physical and neurological disorders celebrated its annual day recently. Dr Kamlesh and Sabrina Bokil,who set up the centre five years ago,said there was a need to provide special care for these children. The childs requirement,aptitude and ability are taken into consideration so that they can cope with the demands of education, said Bokil.
Dealing with Hemophilia
To mark the World Hemophilia Day on April 17,Hemophilia Society,Pune Chapter,organised an awareness camp and discussion session on hemophilia management. Over 100 people attended the camp held at DY Patil Hospital,Pimpri. Experts said there are 3,500 registered patients suffering with hemophilia in Maharashtra. They said that a lack of awareness about the genetic disorder leads to several complications among patients,not just in rural areas but in cities as well.
