Around 4 lakh cellphone customers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have been facing problems with continuous call drops and non-connectivity. While officials assure remedy in two days, grievances cell of BSNL is getting flooded with complaints on daily basis.
Persons trying to connect to my mobile phone can connect only after repeated attempts, but call drops suddenly while talking. Cross connections is another problem. Sending messages is also an issue, said Pratap Kadam,a BSNL cellphone user.
I have been using BSNL mobile phone for the last seven years. Initially, the service was good. However,in the last few months,I have been continuously facing the problems with call drops. Even as my handset shows full range, other person trying to call me could not connect to my phone. I miss many important business calls, said Aditya Athalye, another BSNL user.
Since the employees of the BSNL face wrath of the customers on daily basis, the issue of mobile phones was also raised last month at a meeting of joint action committee (JAC) comprising executives and non-executives. The JAC had given a letter to the management highlighting 15 to 20 issues of the mobile phone services. The management has taken a serious note of them and are trying to improve the services, said Vivek Vankhede, secretary of JAC.
We were told that the technical hitches were there as the company had been preparing for providing the facility of mobile number portability that would come soon. It was also told that trials for providing 3-G services had also affected the services to some extent, he said.
It may be recalled that the BSNL on the day of launching 3-G services in the city on June 14 had admitted that its mobile phone services had been facing some problems. BSNL needs 50 more BTS towers to address the issue, Mohan Lal,general manager of mobile section of Maharashtra and Goa circle had said at that time. When contacted on Monday,he said the technical snags would be resolved in two days. We have been monitoring the issues and have been successful in resolving them. There is no issue in connecting mobile phones from BSNL to BSNL, he said.
