Six die as boat capsizes in Ramganga river
Six persons drowned while two are reported to be missing after a boat carrying about 52 persons capsized in river Ramganga in Bhojpur area of Moradabad district on Tuesday.
The Moradabad DIG,B P Jogdand,said the incident happened when the passengers were alighting from it. The local divers and those from the 23 battalion of PAC later fished out six bodies. Two others are reported to be missing,the DIG said. The SP (City),Rahul Yadvendra said people from Bangla Gaon village grow fruits and vegetables across the river at Bhojpur.
They visit the place everyday to bring the produce and sell it off in the city markets. He said the efforts to trace the missing persons would be initiated tomorrow morning.
Technical college chairman,son killed
The chairman of a private technical college and his son were murdered by a group of unidentified persons at their residence on the college premises in Ekdil area of Etawah district on Tuesday.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be established. The Etawah SSP,Rakesh Pradhan,said that Ram Lakhan Tiwari (75),the chairman of the RLT Technical College,and his son Ashish Tiwari (28),who was the manager of the institute,were strangled and beaten to death in the morning today. The SSP said the security guard and a few faculty members who were present at the college premises heard the victims screams but could not dare to help the father-son duo. No valuables were found missing,said Pradhan.

The state government has appointed two former Armymen as disaster management officers at the office of the relief commissioner. While former Wing Commander S N Dwivedi has served on various posts in Air Defence College at Memaura in Lucknow,Air Headquarters in New Delhi and Electronic Training Institute-Bangalore,Colonel N C Bhatt has served at Girls Battalion NCC Unit in Shillong. This is the first time that ex-armymen have been appointed as disaster management officers.
Government releases funds for development in eastern UP
The state government has released Rs 37.03 crore for the financial year 2010-11 under the Purvanchal Vikas Nidhi. In an official communique issued on Tuesday,funds have been released for 29 districts Azamgarh,Ballia,Mau,Allahabad,Kaushambi,Fatehpur,Pratapgarh,Gorakhpur,Kushinagar,Deoria,Maharajganj,Gonda,Behraich,Shrawasti,Balrampur,Faizabad,Ambedkar Nagar,Barabanki,Sultanpur,Basti,Siddharth Nagar,Sant Kabir Nagar,Mirzapur,Sant Ravidas Nagar,Sonbhadra,Varanasi,Chandauli,Ghazipur and Jaunpur. Out of Rs 37.03 crore,while Rs 15.87 crores will be utilised by the power sector,Rs 10.58 crore will be used for flood management. Moreover,Rs 5.29 crore will be used for the development and beautification of tourist spots and Rs 2.64 crores for improving education facilities.
Five of a family get life for triple murder
MUZAFFARNAGAR: A local court sentenced five members of a family to life imprisonment on Tuesday after finding them guilty of shooting dead a farmer and his two sons over a land dispute in 2005. Special Sessions Judge Pradeep Goel convicted brothers Ranbir and Rajender and their three sons Mumupal,Suraj and Anuj for the murder of farmer Karan Singh and his sons Jasbir and Gatendra. According to the prosecution,the accused shot dead the trio following a dispute over a farm land at Sakha Khari village on December 18,2005. Earlier,the Allahabad High Court had expressed concern over delay in disposal of the case.
