Cops tone down rape complaint,victim ends life

Mahoba SP Manzil Saini said,“Circle Officer Kul Pahad has been asked to look into the role of the police. The policemen will be taken to task if they are found guilty of converting the offence of rape into that of molestation.”

The SP said the girl had come to the Kul Pahad police station on Sunday and registered a complaint that one Bhajju of her village had molested her. The accused was arrested later. The same evening,however,her relatives and some locals came to the police station and alleged that the girl was,in fact,raped. They claimed she wanted to file the rape complaint but the police lodged a molestation case.

The SP said she came to know about the matter on Sunday night and had asked the CO to conduct a medical examination of the girl to verify the allegation of rape.

Before she could be sent for the test,she hanged herself on Monday morning,Saini said.

“The accused is in jail and faces the charge of abetment to suicide. The rape charge would be added if the forensic report corroborated it,” the SP added.
