At first glance,Smabhu Dass photographs appear to be like paintings. Abstract lines and psychedelic colours combine to create beautiful images. Its easy to mistake my photographs for paintings but that effect is intentional. I like playing with the images, says Das,who recently exhibited his works at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Das likes to experiment with mundane things that arepart of our everyday lives. Damaged walls, barks of trees and rotting wooden furniture end up being his canvas. He also likes working with pre-exposed photographic paper. Anything can be transformed into a piece of beauty by the touch of an able hand coupled with a creative mind, claims Das.
Abstract photography has been a passion for Das since childhood. I would always try to see things from a different perspective. I would see patterns in almost everything, he says.
However,Das rues the fact that there is not much awareness about his kind of work. People hardly know about this kind of photography. We need to reach out to more people, he says.
