Bright Nights

There’s nothing called too much partying, and nobody agrees as much as Delhi’s party crowd who have, over the past few weeks, been spoilt for choice.

There’s nothing called too much partying, and nobody agrees as much as Delhi’s party crowd who have, over the past few weeks, been spoilt for choice. Thanks to a stunning number of invites, they can block off all nights on their calendar for the coming months. Restaurants across the city are putting up special events on different nights — from celebrating the weather with retro live music one evening or indulging in a glass of good wine with interesting nibbles on the other — and are being rewarded with heavy footfalls.

Saturdays are special at The Love Hotel at Ai,which also earmarks one day every month to host a grand affair. At the Jazz Lounge at Ai,Saturdays are for Swinging Back to the Sixties and devoted to groovy retro beats. The venue swings back to the 1960s and guests get a chance to get photographed with a restored hot pink Lambretta scooter. Every month, there is also Tropical Seduction, with mojitos and lei (Hawaiian garlands),and Sushi Samba, with fire dancers and their sensuous moves,DJ Aaron James on the turntable and an interesting liquid menu that blends Japanese and Brazilian cultures. “Special nights not only bring in extra cash but also help establish the restaurant’s image as a happening place,” says Priyanka Dod,Corporate Manager (events).

At Manre,Wednesdays are devoted to Desi Addiction with Bollywood music and usually doubles as a Ladies’ Night. “We often roll out complimentary drinks for woman guests on Wednesdays,” says owner Ramola Bachchan. “It is important to host special nights on weekdays as it attracts people and takes the restaurant a step ahead than just a regular dining space.” Thursdays at Manre are called Thirsty Thursdays and the restaurant rolls out an attractive deal — pay Rs 800 for unlimited IMFL. “These nights make a significant difference to the restaurant’s revenue and we have large spaces to segregate activities and maintain a balance,” she adds.

The Yum Yum Tree, the oriental specialty diner in New Friend’s Colony, has devoted Thursdays to Streets of Singapore at their grill section. At Rs 899 (plus tax) you can help yourself with unlimited portions of sushi rolls, sizzling grills and servings of sake and sangria. On Tuesdays, you can add a bottle of house wine to your meal at Rs 850 (plus tax). “People do not associate parties with Tuesdays. Unless we have a special promotion,it could just be a dead night otherwise. These events help us get a balanced week and we don’t have to depend on weekends to bring us good business. Also promotions like these help customers chalk out their dining budget,” says owner Varun Tuli.

At Urban Pind in Greater Kailash I,the week is bustling with specials. Tuesdays are for extended happy hours and free salsa dance classes,Wednesdays are Ladies Night-out with unlimited beer and mojitos,Thursdays are Expat Nights, full of special packages including unlimited IMFL at Rs 550 (plus tax),for foreign guests, and Fridays are Model Nights, when anybody from the fashion fraternity can collect their lifetime membership cards which entitles them to complementary drinks and food. So,where’s the party tonight?
