With Ramoowalia’s exit, lobbying on for new SAD in-charge of Mohali Assembly

Local leaders demand that the leader should be picked from among those based in Mohali.

With the exit of Balwant Singh Ramoowalia from the city politics, his rival groups, led by Derabassi MLA and Chief Parliamentary Secretary N K Sharma, have upped the ante to get their loyalists selected as the new SAD in-charge of the Mohali Assembly constituency.

The names of Patiala District Planning Committee chief Deepinder Singh Dhillon, Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra’s elder son Harinder Pal Singh, State Women Commission chairperson and N K Sharma loyalist Paramjeet Kaur Landran are doing the rounds. Although Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the party president, will take the final call, the local leaders are demanding that the leader should be picked from among those based in Mohali.

Deepinder Singh Dhillon who contested the Assembly elections as an independent against N K Sharma from Derabassi in 2012 elections is said to be the front-runner. Dhillon has failed to make any mark in Patiala and is likely to be adjusted in Mohali. He has acceptance among a section of the local leaders as he is considered non-controversial. However, another section has already approached the high command stating that he is an outsider.

The other name doing the rounds is of Chandumajra’s elder son Harinder Pal. Although the local leadership does not seem ready to give the responsibility to another ‘outsider’, Harinder Pal can be a party choice as Chandumajra has some support in the city from the local leaders. “He is young but we feel he is an outsider. Although the party will take the final call, we have some apprehensions about him,” said a local leader.

The name of Paramjeet Kaur Landran was also doing the rounds. She could get a chance as she is Sharma loyalist. She admits that she is in the race but refrained from saying anything yet.
