Police sources said one suspect has been identified from CCTV footage, and his family in Ferozepur’s Bharat Nagar has been called for questioning. The second assailant is yet to be identified.
The RSS and the BJP late on Tuesday issued a two-day ultimatum to the Punjab government to solve the case pertaining to the murder of Sangh volunteer Naveen Arora, failing which they will launch protests. The ultimatum comes as the police have failed to make any arrests even three days after the 32-year-old was killed in Ferozepur.
On Tuesday evening, a meeting of RSS Sampark Pramukh, Nagar Pramukhs, BJP leaders and traders was held in Ferozepur.
“In the meeting, it was decided that memorandums addressed to the Punjab Chief Minister will be submitted to deputy commissioners across all 22 districts on Wednesday. RSS volunteers, its affiliate units and BJP leaders will lead this. A two-day ultimatum has been given to the state government. If the case is not solved by November 21, a dharna will launched in Ferozepur, followed by more protests,” said Sarabjeet Singh Bath, BJP’s Ferozepur unit chief.
“Members of the Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal, representatives of various mandir committees and several NGOs were also present in the meeting. This is not just the Sangh or one family’s issue — the general public is gripped by fear. People from all walks of life will join the dharna,” Bath added.
Ashwani Dhawan, RSS Nagar Pramukh, demanded strict action against the assailants.
Arora, who ran a small shop in the main Ferozepur bazaar, was shot dead on November 15 night. As per the CCTV footage, two assailants, one wearing a white hoodie and the other a black jacket, had conducted a recce in the market about an hour before Arora left his shop.
Police sources said one suspect has been identified from CCTV footage, and his family in Ferozepur’s Bharat Nagar has been called for questioning. The second assailant is yet to be identified.
The final prayer meeting for Arora was held on Tuesday. He is survived by his parents, his wife, a six-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.
Earlier, a little known pro-Khalistan outfit claimed responsibility for the killing and warned that RSS, Shiv Sena members, police and military personnel will be targetted by the group in the future.
