Three professors of DAV College,Sector 10,were suspended by the college governing body on Tuesday, after college principal B C Josan filed a complaint accusing the trio of ‘manhandling’ him.

Professor A K Taneja,Professor Anil Sarwal and Professor Avinindra Chopra had allegedly manhandled Josan at a Diwali function in November last year.

After the incident,an inquiry was ordered, the report of which was submitted to the managing committee .

Sources said the committee was not satisfied by the professors’ reply.

Principal Josan said: “I was surprised to see new reports accusing me of manhandling these professors. In fact, they were the ones who manhandled me as I did not agree to their demand of giving Rs 50,000 to every retiree.”

Talking to Newsline,Professor Sarwal said: “We have been working for the welfare of the college since long and will never ask for anything beyond the college norms. Also,no one manhandled principal Josan, rather it was we who were manhandled.”

Teachers come out in support
The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) has condemned the suspension of Professor A K Taneja,Professor Anil Sarwal and Professor Avinindra Chopra. PCCTU general secretary Dr Jagwant Singh blamed principal Josan for the situation. “On November 24,2008,Josan called in outsiders to the college in a bid to intimidate the union. Later,we filed a complaint with all the authorities about the incident. Even today,Josan called in some outsiders to the college with mala fide intentions.” In a press note, the PCCTU stated that the Chandigarh Administration should take note of the activities of principal Josan, who belongs to a political family and is “trying to bring in the tactics adopted by politicians into matters of college administration”. The PCCTU has convened a meeting of all leaders of the DAV Colleges in Punjab on March 6 to plan the future course of action.
