BJP national secretary Vinod Tawde said Thursday that the people of Maharashtra and Mumbai are mature voters and they will take a judicious decision while exercising their vote in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, keeping the larger interest of Mumbai and Maharashtra in mind.

Tawde voted in the BMC polls in Mumbai in the morning with his wife Varsha and daughter Avni.

Speaking to the media, Tawde said, “I will urge people to exercise their right to vote in the elections for BMC and all other municipal corporations across Maharashtra.”

“I have been interacting with non-political people for the past few days. The people of Maharashtra are mature. Especially about Mumbaikars, I must say they don’t easily get carried away by campaigns.”

“Mumbai has witnessed an intense campaign. From ‘make or break’ to ‘give and take’, alliances were raised and debated during the campaign. Ultimately, the people have the right to decide. But from what I perceived, I can say people are mature. And they know what and who will serve the development agenda for Mumbai and Maharashtra,” he said.

The voting for the BMC polls began across all 227 wards of Mumbai Thursday morning. Out of these, 114 seats are reserved for women, the State Election Commission announced. Voting for 28 other corporations, including Navi Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, is also underway.

The Mumbai police have implemented a series of measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the BMC elections. More than 25,000 police personnel have been deployed throughout the city. On Wednesday night, these officers were on standby, maintaining constant communication with the election staff’s flying squads.
