We care – not a damn – for you
The slogan of Chandigarh Police We care for you rings hollow. Rather than saving the life of a 33-year-old woman, mother of two,the Police was busy saving crucial evidence by neither touching her nor allowing the public to take her to the hospital. The argument, raised by the Police officials,is that they were instructed by their Sahib (SHO Shri Prakash) to wait till he arrives. He reached,as per allegations against him,two hours after the incident occurred. Equally unconcerned was the UT top brass about the incident. For two days,Naunihal Singh,UT Senior Superintendent of Police claimed to be blissfully unaware about the action being taken against Police officials. Reason: he was at home. On the other hand, the Inspector General (IG) of Police R P Upadhyay had opined if necessary action will be taken against those found guilty,if any. It is only after the Punjab and Haryana High Court took suo motu notice of the unfortunate incident and slammed the Police that they have swung into action. Its time they change their slogan to: We care – a damn – for you.
Disgraceful
Oblivious of their duties, the Chandigarh Police force seems to have lost a sense of morality as well. Rather than taking accusations of inaction and delay leveled against its police officials seriously, the senior police officers are dismissing the complaint of two youths as a stunt to garner publicity. Now,why would a youth, not even related to the 33-year-old who died on the road, make false allegations and that too in black and white against the Police officials?
Technologically Challenged
The UT Administrations IT department, which boasts of being the most technologically advanced department, seems to be the most challenged. How else can one explain the wrong information uploaded on the official website of the UT Administration which is monitored and updated by the IT department? Worse – not only are the names of some officers wrong – but it also carries the names of those officers who are long gone. The UT advisor has wrongly been mentioned as K K Singh instead of KK Sharma and the Finance secretary has been mentioned as Vijoy Kumar Sharma instead of Vijoy Kumar Singh. Also,R K Rao continues to be DC whereas there have been two incumbents who have joined after him. So is Home Secretary Ram Niwas, instead of Anil Kumar, who is long gone.
Unfulfilled dreams
The series of events that unfolded after the arrest of nephew of local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal has started discussions among the local leaders about how they could also be possible candidates for the forthcoming elections. Even as talks are doing the rounds of some Central leaders being brought to the city, the local leaders opine that with there being more seats in the states, their counterparts have already won elections and tasted success. However,in Chandigarh the scope is limited to being a councillor.
Big responsibility
A s soon as UBS alumnus and SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhuri handed over a cheque worth Rs 1 crore to the UBS chairperson, the faculty members were brimming with joy. The faculty members said its a good beginning, and that they hope he will give more to the department. With cheque in his hand Dr Karamjeet of the department said,It is a big amount,I will keep the cheque under lock and key. It is a big responsibility.
Mismanaged
During the visit of Congress vice president,Rahul Gandhi,to the city earlier this week, not only were the residents a harried lot,due to the diversion of traffic, but even the cops who were deployed on security duty had a tough time. Some of the cops were on security duty from morning and could not eat their food on time. The cops were provided food in packets from the district police lines but some of them complained that it was of poor quality. Also, the parking arrangements for the Congress workers who visited the Indradhanush auditorium were not adequate. A long queue of vehicles was seen on the footpath. The state government could have organized it a tad better, for this high-profile,and seemingly important, visit.
