Nawanshahr naib tehsildar’s registration powers withdrawn
Nawanshahr: In a move that is a clear reflection of the strict guidelines issued by the Dy. Chief Minister to the Deputy Commissioners to improve public dealing in government offices,the Deputy Commissioner of Nawanshahr on Thursday withdrew the land registration powers from the Naib Tehsildar of Nawanshahr. Shruti Singh,DC,withdrew the registration powers from Naib Tehsildar,Manvir Singh Dhillon on allegations that he was ignoring the testimony of concerned Numberdars or municipal councillors while registering the land sale deeds. As per Indian Registration Act,1908,the identity of seller and buyer has to be testified by the village numberdar,if the land is situated in a rural area,and by the municipal councillor,if the land is in urban area.

Patwaris in Vigilance net for taking bribe
Amritsar: Two Patwaris,identified as Gurmej Singh in Amritsar and Ramesh Chander in Gurdaspur,were arrested by the Vigilance Bureau for taking bribe. Gurmej,a patwari in Sultanwind Circle,demanded Rs 50,000 from NRI Inderjit Singh for giving him a copy of the land records of his ancestral property. Inderjit said he was first harassed by Gurmej,who finally sought money to give records. Chander,on the other hand,demanded Rs 2,000 from one Vikas Saini,who needed his land records.

Man batters elder brother to death
Jalandhar: A youth,along with his friend,killed his elder brother by battering his head with bricks in Abadpura on Thursday. Both the accused have been arrested and booked under sections 320,34 of IPC. Talking to The Indian Express,Som Nath,SHO,Police Station Bhargo Camp,said the two brothers Deesha,27 and Banarsi,24,were drug-addicts and had frequent brawls over a 2-marla plot they owned. The elder brother was still a bachelor while the younger one had got married a few months ago. On Wednesday evening,they quarreled and went out to Ravidass Park,where they again picked up a fight,throwing bricks at each other. Vipin,Banarsi’s friend,also joined and hit Deesha on the head,which proved fatal.
