Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Monday said the development of a state is directly linked with its law-and-order situation. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru to mark Police Commemoration Day, he said, “Law and order is one of the major factors to draw investment into the state. This (good law-and-order situation) increases employment and the economy also grows. This further increases the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the state.” Siddaramaiah said his government will support free and fair policing in the state and is also committed to protecting the interests of police personnel. “We have provided Rs 2,000 crore for the construction of 10,000 houses in police quarters by 2025 and another 100 police stations will be created at the cost of Rs 200 crore. We will also open seven police public schools in seven prime places,” he added. “In India, at least 216 police personnel including 12 in Karnataka have died while they were on duty. I stand with these families,” he further said. The chief minister also mentioned that 6,000 CCTV cameras have been installed and 260 patrol vehicles have been deployed across the state to prevent crimes.
