The report also notes that factory data from April 25 and April 28 indicated a spike in polymer content in Styrene. On May 7, the same process led to the leak. Similar spikes, the probe said, were noticed as early as April 4 but these were “totally ignored.”

The arrests came after a high-powered committee set up to investigate the leak directed that FIRs be registered against all the top management officials of the company for negligence.

The committee noted that the accident occurred due to uncontrolled styrene vapour release from the M6 tank and qualified it as a major accident as per the definition under Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemical Rules, 1989 rules.

In three writ petitions, the team said they were not employees of LG Polymers but work for its parent company LG Chem. They said they have investigated the cause of the leak and gave their statements to the police.
