ABOUT Madhavan

R Madhavan: A Versatile Journey in Cinema Ranganathan Madhavan, a prominent figure in Tamil and Hindi cinema, has carved a niche for himself with diverse roles and accolades. His career began with Mani Ratnam's Alai Payuthey (2000), establishing him as a romantic lead. He further cemented his position with successful films like Minnale and Dumm Dumm Dumm. His versatility shone through in critically acclaimed performances in Kannathil Muthamittal, Anbe Sivam, and Aayutha Ezhuthu. Madhavan's foray into Hindi cinema proved equally successful. He starred in the iconic Rang De Basanti (2006), Guru (2007), and the blockbuster 3 Idiots (2009), showcasing his range. The success continued with Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and its sequel. His comeback post a hiatus included critically acclaimed roles in Irudhi Suttru (2016), earning him Best Actor awards, and Vikram Vedha (2017). His recent achievements include his directorial debut and starring role in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. He recently appeared in Shaitaan (2024). Beyond acting, Madhavan has produced films, hosted television shows, and actively engages in philanthropy, receiving PETA's Person of the Year award in 2011 and a Doctor of Letters in 2021. His career reflects a dedication to his craft, marked by both commercial success and critical acclaim. Currently, he serves as the President of FTII, Pune.
