Arvind Sawant biography
Arvind Ganpat Sawat, also known as Arvind Sawant, is a political leader from Maharastra and a member of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). He is the incumbent Member of the Parliament from Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat.
He was born on December 31, 1951, in Sindhudurg to his parents, Ganpat Pandurag and Aashalata Ganpat Sawant. He completed his B.Sc. from Bhavan's College of Mumbai and worked as an engineer with MTNL before joining politics.
In 1968, he became a 'gat pramukh' and joined Shiv Sena, which started his political career. He left his position as an engineer at Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited in 1995, voluntarily retired, and became a full-time member of Shiv Sena. In 1996, he went on to be elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
In May 2014, he was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from Mumbai-South representing Shiv Sena. He retained his seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election by a margin of just over one lakh votes.
