First woman Chief Justice of Nepal, Sushila Karki, takes oath

The oath was administered by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at a special programme organised at the Presidential Residence, Sheetal Niwas.

Newly appointed Chief Justice Sushila Karki on Monday took oath of office and secrecy to become the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal.

The oath was administered by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at a special programme organised at the Presidential Residence, Sheetal Niwas.

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee had on Sunday approved the name of Karki who was recommended by the Constitutional Council on April 10, reports the Kathmandu Post.

Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Onsari Gharti, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Secretary, Chiefs of constitutional and security bodies and representatives of Nepal Bar Association, among others were present on the occasion.

Similarly, President Bhandari also administered oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav.

Both of them will assume their respective offices from Monday.
