From completing a 10,000-foot skydive at 80 to becoming the world’s oldest sharpshooter, women worldwide are defying age, becoming fearless to fulfil their lifelong dreams that they suppressed at a young age. ‘Biker Dadis’, Indian octogenarians hailing from Gujarat, are winning hearts with their savvy spirit and have taken the internet by storm.
Mandakini Shah, 87, and her sibling, Ushaben, 84, have become local stars for riding through the city on their scooter, earning them the title of ‘Biker Dadis’. In the viral video, Mandakini, fondly called Mandaben, can be confidently seen steering her scooter while Ushaben relaxes in the sidecar, recreating Jay and Veeru from the iconic Bollywood film Sholay. Draped in cotton sarees, the duo is captivating the city.
Sharing the video on X, PTI wrote, “Eighty-seven-year-old Mandakini Shah enjoys cheerful rides with her younger sister, effortlessly navigating Ahmedabad’s bustling traffic with poise and confidence, creating moments of pure joy along the way.”

The video has since gone viral, prompting an array of reactions. “I have one friend of 97 years in Chennai driving a scooter even now,” a user wrote. “This truly makes me happy to watch… but Dadi, I think you need the helmet more than anyone,” another user commented.
Mandaben, the eldest among six siblings and the daughter of a freedom fighter, said it was her dream to ride a bike; however, a lack of resources prevented her. “I learned to ride a scooter when I was 62, and I still ride my scooter without any trouble,” she told PTI.
A former teacher who never married, she added, “I give a lift to children whenever I go to the garden. I also offer lifts to strangers and drop them off at their destination. Thanks to my strong willpower, I can ride a scooter at this age, that too in the city’s traffic.”
Going viral has brought them unexpected attention and plaudits. Mandaben admits she never imagined such fame. “I never thought I would become famous. Random people contact me and appreciate my spirit. People motivate me, saying I am doing so well. However, some also advise me to sit at home because of my age. At a hospital, doctors clicked photos with me and did not charge anything,” she said.
Despite walking with a stick, Mandaben is no stranger to four wheels either. She knows how to drive a jeep and doesn’t hesitate to take the wheel during trips to her village, PTI reported.
“I go everywhere on this scooter with my sister. After seeing me, some men urge their wives to learn to ride two-wheelers fearlessly. Some women told me that they are now inspired to ride,” she told the news agency.
Ushaben, on the other hand, said she loves the recognition they receive while riding around the city.
“We roam all over the city on this scooter. We used to live in densely populated areas of Manek Chowk and Kalupur in the past, but in those areas, too, my sister rode effortlessly. Age is not a barrier for us. We hope that other women will get inspiration from us,” says Ushaben.
