A host of cab services have sprung in the country employing scores of commercial drivers, often without verification. Misbehaviour by cab drivers is not a new story these days but verbally abusing a customer because she decided to cancel her cab is not an incident any cab company would want to have to deal with. But this is exactly what happened with Bangalore-based artist and social media analyst Michelle Alvez when she booked an Ola cab and cancelled it after a minute. Alvez received a message from the driver with an expletive, and she immediately posted the screenshot of it on Twitter. "Had to cancel my cab 2 mins after booking yesterday because of an issue. This is how @Olacabs drivers respond to you," she tweeted. “It was my birthday and my friends at work wanted me to stay with them till midnight. My colleagues felt it would be unsafe for me to travel home alone late, so I cancelled the cab a minute after booking,” Alvez told BuzzFeed. Later, Ola contacted the artist and apologised to her, promising strict action against the driver. On the very same day, the company tweeted that the driver had been fired. @Micha_Alvez In response to our discussion, we have terminated the driver with immediate effect. We standby to our promise to your safety. — Olacabs Support (@ola_supports) February 6, 2016 Alvez was sceptical about how the driver would take this termination. I hope this will not lead to any backlash from the driver personally. — Micheℒℒe (@Micha_Alvez) February 6, 2016 To which, Ola asked her to block his number. @Micha_Alvez We advise you to block his number, the driver is also made aware of the legal implications. We appreciate your patience. — Olacabs Support (@ola_supports) February 6, 2016
