Indonesian man dies during chicken eating competition at KFC outlet

The victim choked, drank water and, despite medical aid, died, according to police sources.

A 45-year-old Indonesian man choked to death during a chicken eating competition in capital Jakarta, the media reported on Saturday.

The competition, organised at one of the outlets of the fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) on Friday, had three participants who raced to eat the fried chicken wings in the least amount of time, EFE news reported.

The victim choked, drank water and, despite medical aid, died, according to police sources.

According to a statement released by KFC India later, O2 Accion Dcc, the promotions company that organised the contest,  has cancelled the event. “We are incredibly saddened to hear of this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with Freedi Djajadi’s family. KFC Indonesia is in communication with local authorities to determine what exactly happened,” read the statement.
