SC declines Asaram plea to restrain media

The court told his counsel he had other remedies and the SC was not the only destination.

The Supreme Court Friday Asaram Bapus plea to restrain media from maliciously targeting him in the sexual assault case.

A Bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam said that it could not direct media not to report on the information they get from police or other sources. The court told his counsel he had other remedies and the SC was not the only destination as it was told that the media was reporting that Asarams wife and daughter were supplying him girls.

The counsel told the court that he was not seeking to restrain the entire media but only two news channels, which were regularly carrying slanderous reports about Asaram. The Bench, however, said that such a blanket order could not be passed.
