Asaram Bapu was born Asumal Sirumalani in April 1941 in Berani village, which is now in Pakistan. Asaram came to Ahmedabad in the early 70s. He later went on to open at least 400 ashrams across the country. He has thousands of followers in India. A trial court in Jodhpur on April 25, 2018, found Asaram guilty of raping a minor girl in August 2013 and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Jodhpur Sessions Court rejects Asaram Bapu's bail plea

Jodhpur, Jan 08 (ANI): Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, who is in jail since September 2013 for allegedly raping a minor, was on Friday denied bail by a court in Jodhpur. Lawyer Pramod Kumar Verma on Friday said that the verdict on Asaram Bapu was scheduled for today. He also said that the court rejected the plea and said that it is not the right time for a bail and conditions are not favorable.
