Kumble,Dravid to look into debacle

BCCI is set to make a reshuffle across its administration and in IPL Governing Council at its AGM today.

President-elect N Srinivasan will take over as the 30th chief of the Indian cricket board, replacing incumbent Shashank Manohar,as the BCCI is set to make a reshuffle across its administration and in the IPL Governing Council at its Annual General Meeting on Monday.

Among other likely developments at the meeting, the board is also planning to set up a three-member panel, including Anil Kumble, newly appointed North Zone selector Mohinder Amarnath and special invitee Rahul Dravid,to look into the India teams dismal performance in England.

Following are the decisions that are likely to be made/ratified at the AGM:

New appointments

Sanjay Jagdale will be elevated from joint secretary to secretary. Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association chief Anurag Thakur is the sole nominee for the joint secretary post, while Ajay Shirke will replace Mohindar Pandove as treasurer. Arun Jaitley will continue his term as vice-president from North Zone while Chitrak Mitra (East) and Sudhir Dabir (Central) will be new faces as vice-presidents. Niranjan Shah and Shivlal Yadav from West and South will remain for one more term.

Shukla new IPL chairman

Outgoing vice-president Rajiv Shukla has been appointed IPL chairman, replacing Chirayu Amin, while Thakurs place in the IPL governing council will go to Jharkhand Cricket Association president Amitabh Choudhary. Gundappa Vishwanath is the new face in the council, replacing Amarnath.

Lone change in selection panel

As expected, the board has retained the core of the senior selection panel, headed by Krishnamachari Srikkanth. Only Yashpal Sharma, who has completed his four-year term, makes way for Amarnath. Only North Zone selector will be changed as Yashpal Sharma has completed his term, whereas remaining will be the same and will be given one- year extension, Rajiv Shukla said on the eve of the AGM. The junior selection committee, headed by Abey Kuruvilla,is expected to remain unchanged.

Gavaskar resignation

According to sources,Sunil Gavaskar has sent his resignation to Srinivasan, asking him to free him from the post of technical committee chairman. Gavaskar has chaired the technical committee for the last seven years and wrote in his letter that it was the right time for BCCI to look for a new face. BCCI is expected to choose between Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly for the post.

The BCCI could send a termination notice to Kochi Tuskers Kerala if they dont receive the long-pending bank guarantee money from the franchise. If they dont submit their bank guarantee now, then as per their IPL rule they will be scrapped as a team in IPL, a top BCCI official said. Kochi had earlier requested BCCI to allow them to change their venue from Kochi to Ahmedabad.
