Actor Celina Jaitly is currently going through one of the toughest years of her life, as she is juggling a divorce and the case of her missing brother all alone. In at least one of those cases, Celina has now gained some important ground, as the Delhi High Court directed the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate communication between Celina and her brother, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly (retd), a former Indian Army officer detained in the UAE for more than a year.

The actor-model celebrated the court’s decision and posted a long message on social media. She wrote, “Ma & Pa… I am doing my best! I haven’t spoken to Vikrant in 15 months. Today, Hope Was Placed on Record. Thank you, Universe. My petition seeking access to and legal representation for my brother, Maj (Retd) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been abducted and detained in the UAE since 6 Sep 2024, was heard by the Hon’ble Delhi High Court today.”

Celina added, “The Ministry of External Affairs filed its Status Report and appointed a Nodal Officer to coordinate with me for access to my brother. While I still haven’t been able to speak to Vikrant – it’s been 15 months now – the Additional Solicitor General, Govt of India Sr Adv Chetan Sharma, apprised the Court that they will make their best efforts to get me to speak to Vikrant.”

Celina also thanked the MEA and the Delhi High Court for helping her in these tough times. Celina wrote, “The Hon’ble Judge directed the Ministry to make efforts to facilitate my access to speak to Vikrant. I’m grateful to Ld. ASG and the Court and those who recognised my suffering and acknowledged our family’s 4 generations of contributions to the Indian armed forces. The next date in court is 23 Dec. I look forward to the next steps optimistically.”

Celina Jaitly’s application claimed that her brother Major (retd) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly has been residing in the UAE since 2016. She said that he was employed with the MATITI Group, which is engaged in trading, consultancy, and risk management services.

Major Vikrant had been “illegally abducted and detained” in the UAE on September 6 last year, the petition said.

However, despite the passage of over one year, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has failed to secure basic information about the actor’s brother, including his welfare conditions and legal status, the plea alleged.

On November 3, the court had directed the government to file its response.

On Thursday, Justice Sachin Datta directed the MEA to inform Major Vikrant in the next consular access that his sister wished to talk to him.

Besides, Justice Dutta also asked the MEA to facilitate Celina’s communication with her brother via the TAMM app (Abu Dhabi’s government services app) or by another relevant mode.

The court noted that according to the status report filed by the ministry, a nodal officer had been appointed It, however, sought a fresh status report and posted the matter for further proceedings on December 23.
