Ahead of Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s visit to China, India has registered its protest regarding Beijing’s involvement in development of infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). “The matter has been taken up with the Chinese government through diplomatic channels… It was taken up with the Chinese ambassador in Delhi and (it) was taken up by our ambassador in Beijing,” said Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar.

During his recent visit to Pakistan, Chinese President Xi Jinping had signed a $ 46 billion deal for a corridor that links China to Gwadar port, allowing it access to the Indian Ocean and the oil-rich Middle East.

Modi is scheduled to visit China, Mongolia and South Korea during his three-nation tour from May 14 to May 19. Jaishankar said the Asian neighbours would sign a series of bilateral documents involving economic, trade, investment and infrastructure collaborations.
Jaishankar did not rule out the possibility of discussions on the border dispute during Modi’s visit. “All important issues — bilateral, multilateral — would be discussed,” he said.

Asked whether Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh last month was strategically planned ahead of the PM’s China visit, Jaishankar said, “Tawang is in Arunachal Pradesh, which is a part of India. So no reason why RM (Raksha Mantri) should not go there.”
