Even as Chhattisgarh Education Minister Kedar Kashyap on Friday denied the charges that his wife, Shanti, had got someone else to sit for a university exam on her behalf, the varsity’s Vice-Chancellor set up a new probe committee, accusing the earlier committee of being partial.
Shanti Kashyap was scheduled to sit for her MA English final exam at a government school in Lohandiguda block of Bastar district on Tuesday. She had an admit card with roll number 6663. The exam was being conducted by Sundar Lal Sharma Open University of Bilaspur. Shanti’s sister, Kiran Mourya, is alleged to have written the exam on her behalf.
The inquiry committee visited Kashyap’s house Friday. In his statement, Kashyap claimed that his wife had not filled the form for the exam this year.

“How the admit card was issued in her name is a matter that needs to be probed,” he claimed.
Subsequently, a member of the probe panel issued a statement that purportedly gave a clean chit to the minister’s wife.
“A committee member has given a statement to the media today that Shanti Kashyap is like ‘our daughter’. Such statements indicate that the probe was not independent and was influenced by others. This is unacceptable,” said Vice-Chancellor Bansgopal Singh.
“The team was scheduled to submit its report today evening. But we no longer trust these members. I have disbanded the team and constituted a new committee. We will probe the matter afresh now,” he said, adding that “kuch to gadbad hai”.
Earlier, Chief Minister Raman Singh had ruled out Kashyap’s resignation, saying, “he did not personally go to write the exam.”
Meanwhile, the Congress slammed Kashyap’s statement and said this was the “height of forgery”. “BJP is now Behan, Jija and Patni party. They have lost all sense of morality,” said PCC chief Bhupesh Baghel.
