Alka, who is currently shooting the Kolkata leg of the show that chronicles the cultural differences between Marwari and Bengali families residing in the city, said she was excited to have an image makeover with the Colors’ new drama.

“I have never played such a (positive) character. I am fortunate enough to have an image makeover with the show as I did not want to play more negative characters onscreen. On this show, I play a conservative and traditional dadi (grandma),” she said during the launch of the show here. But Alka still feels that playing dark characters is a challenge for actors.

“We all have dark shades but generally our dark side does not come outeasily until we go through some life-changing experience. So, when one portrays a negative character, he/she has to build up the role on imagination,” she said The show, which also stars Helly Shah, Tejaswi Prakash, Tanima Sen among others, aims to bring back the friendly neighbourhood culture of bygone era.

“It is about friendly neighbourhood, which no longer exists in cities. Neighbours play a very important role. It’s very important to know your neighbours because it gives you an opportunity to learn various cultures,” she said.
