Congress demands ration for APL card holders, to take to the streets today

The Congress leaders had placed their demands in a meeting with state food and civil supplies minister Girish Bapat.

The Mumbai Congress will stage protests outside each of the 29 rationing offices in the city on Friday, demanding that the Public Distribution System rations be supplied on an immediate basis to APL (above poverty line) card-holders along with BPL (below poverty line) card-holders who don’t own an Adhaar card.

The Congress, apparently looking to start rebuilding with civic elections coming up in 2017, has also demanded three litres of kerosene for everyone along with ration.

Sanjay Nirupam, Mumbai Congress chief said, “Meeting the basic needs of the common man is the main agenda of the government but they are only focusing on generating more money. We had initiated the food safety law for poor people in this country but the new government is indifferent to the poor man’s suffering. Congress will continue to stand against this.”

Nirupam along with ex-MP Priya Dutt will be protesting at the rationing office in Nehru Nagar at Kurla East, while former union minister Milind Deora will lead another delegation to the rationing office in Mahalakshmi.

Senior leaders of the Congress party will also be seen protesting in Malad, Kandivali, Borivali, Dahisar, Mulund, Bhandup, Vikroli, Ghatkopar, Govandi, Andheri, Vile Parle, Goregaon, Chembur, Matunga, Shindewadi, Dharavi, Dadar, Santacruz, Kurla, Bandra, Mazgaon, CP Tank, Girgaon, KalaChowki, Noor Baug, Jambori Maidan, Azad Maidan and Grant Road on March 27.
