Located in the eastern region of Bihar, it borders the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh as well as the districts of Rohtas and Kaimur. The Karmanasa and Ganga rivers mark their natural borders.
The Buxar Lok Sabha constituency comprises six Vidhan Sabha seats, including Brahampur, Buxar, Dumraon, Rajpur, Ramgarh, and Dinara. Congress dominated the constituency in the initial years. However, after 1991, the BJP rose to the challenge and levelled the playing field by winning seven of the next eight Lok Sabha pollings, including the 2014 and 2019 elections.
The polling for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Buxar will take place in the final phase of the elections, i.e., on Saturday, June 1.

After the BJP axed the incumbent MP, Ashwini Kumar Chaoubey, they decided to put their hopes in the former Baikunthpur MLA, Mithilesh Tiwari, who will be contesting his first-ever Lok Sabha elections. He served for the party in various roles, most notably as the Bihar BJP’s state vice president. In addition, he has held positions at the state level as secretary and vice president.

While BJP decided to bank on the former MLA, RJD, on the other hand, chose to field a sitting MLA from Ramgarh and former cabinet minister of Bihar, Sudhakar Singh, as the candidate from the Buxar Lok Sabha constituency. Singh has been vocal against the current regime and is playing the card of anti-incumbency against the current government. He is also the son of RJD state president Jagdanand Singh, which also provides him with background knowledge about how to perform on big stages.
