Texas school bus, with over 40 students, involved in rollover crash; several injured
The bus, which was carrying students from the Leander Independent School District in northwest Austin in Travis County, lost control and rolled over injuring at least 12 students.

A Texas school bus, carrying more than 40 students, was involved in a crash on Wednesday as it rolled over after veering off a rural road on the first day of class, leaving several students injured, authorities said.
The bus, which was carrying students from the Leander Independent School District in northwest Austin in Travis County, lost control and rolled over injuring at least 12 students, an ABC News report stated quoting officials.
According to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services Assistant Chief Kevin Parker, at least one person has suffered life threatening injuries while two others have “potentially life-threatening injuries.”

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash wherein the bus, which was travelling on a rural stretch of a two lane road, veered off on its right side “for an unknown reason” and rolled over, said Department of Public Safety Sergeant Billy Ray.
Images and videos of the accident site showed the yellow bus lying on its side along the road with the roof damaged and multiple windows shattered. Austin-Travis County emergency services were dispatched to the scene after around 3:15pm (local time).
School and emergency officials confirmed the bus had 42 children and the driver was among the 12 people who were admitted to hospital. However, the officials did not clarify if the person with life threatening injuries was a student or the bus driver.
Superintendent Bruce Gearing said the bus was carrying elementary school students and the crash took place as soon as the bus left the school and no student had been dropped off yet. The superintendent added that the bus is a 2024 model and was equipped with state-mandated seat belts that the children are required to wear, AP reported.
“We want each of those students and their families to know that our prayers are with them, our thoughts are with them and we will do everything that we can in our power to support them,” Gearing said.
