Regent Street, one of central London’s busiest shopping and media districts, was evacuated on Wednesday due to a bomb threat after the discovery of a suspicious vehicle.

The Metropolitan police said in a statement that shortly after 2.30pm, a parked vehicle, that had caused the alarm, was found to be non-suspicious and the incident had been “fully stood down”, The Guardian reported.

According to Metro, a black Audi A4 with broken windows and a crumpled boot was taped off on nearby New Burlington Street.

Reports suggest that the incident did not initially appear to be terror-related.

Earlier, the police had said on X, “Road closures are in place in the vicinity of Regent Street and New Burlington Street while officers investigate a suspicious vehicle. Officers have carried out a number of controlled explosions as a precautionary measure.”
