Obama and Singh focus on economic issues

September 27 meeting between India and US country heads to be pegged on economic concerns.

The meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama at the White House later this month would primarily focus on economic issues,a senior US administration official has said.

“I think this will be a visit that is very focused on economic issues,what the US and India can do together to generate economic growth,” the official said yesterday,at a

media briefing.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Washington for a day on September 27 for a meeting with Obama at the White House and the logistics are still being worked out.

Last month,National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon during a visit to Washington had exuded confidence of a successful visit by the Prime Minister.

The US said the Obama-Singh meeting “will highlight India’s role in regional security and stability and provide an opportunity” for the two leaders to chart a course toward enhanced trade,investment,and development cooperation between the two countries.
