Delhi Metro Golden Line: All you need to know about the DMRC’s Phase 4 expansion
With enhanced connectivity from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, discover the key aspects of the Delhi Metro Golden Line, DMRC's latest Phase 4 expansion in Delhi's expanding metro network.

The Golden Line, the forthcoming Phase 4 expansion, is a new addition to the Delhi Metro and is a pivotal development in the city’s public transportation network to enhance connectivity within Delhi and reduce travel time for residents and visitors alike.
Launched by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 expansion, this 24-kilometre rapid transit line aims to connect southern Delhi directly with the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Recently, the DMRC announced the adoption of new colour coding and golden coding for this route. Initially assigned as silver, the change was to avoid confusion and improve visibility for riders as the silver merged with the trains’ stainless steel exterior.
Noteworthy Features:
The Tughlakabad Metro Station is a crucial interchange facility between the Golden Line and the Violet Line. It has been designed as a four-level underground structure with a 23-metre-deep parking facility and a short subway to enhance the commuter experience and inter-line connectivity.
Airport Access:
The Delhi International Airport (DIAL) has requested the extension of the Golden Line to Terminal 1 (T1) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the introduction of check-in facilities at Noida’s Botanical Garden metro station. This proposal aims to manage the anticipated increase in passenger capacity at T1 and improve overall airport connectivity.
Route:
The Golden Line corridor spans 23.62 km, with 15 stations running between Aerocity and Tughlakabad. Scheduled to link the Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh Violet Line with the Airport Express Line, this metro corridor holds strategic significance in expanding connectivity and increasing accessibility to various locales in the southern region across Delhi.

The line includes strategically located stations such as Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj, Chhatarpur, Khanpur, and Sangam Vihar.
Timeline and budget:
The construction of Phase 4 began in March 2023, and the estimated completion date is set for December 2024. However, recent updates suggest that the completion might extend to March 2026.
The Delhi Development Authority has allocated Rs 350 crore for the DMRC in the 2023–2024 budget, and the total cost of the Phase 4 expansion, including the Golden Line, is expected to be around Rs 55,000 crore.
The state government and international funding agencies, like the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), are expected to make significant contributions to the budget.
As DMRC suggests, the broader Phase 4 expansion of the Delhi Metro via its new Golden Metro Route aims to connect new housing localities and enhance the existing public transportation network by offering a more interconnected and efficient transit system, thus providing a significant boost to Delhi’s connectivity and offering direct access to the airport, making it a much-needed addition to Delhi’s urban transportation infrastructure.
