Anupam Mittal, CEO of People Group and Shaadi.com, has been in the soup for introducing a ‘Dowry Calculator’ on Shaadi.com. People called him out for promoting a toxic tradition. Now, Mittal is back with a video tutorial on how to use this controversial feature. In reality, the tool was introduced to drive a powerful message. Those using the tool, in the hope that it would throw a certain figure they "deserve" have to key in some basic details. When they check their "worth" on the feature, it shows data about dowry deaths in India. Those who did not use the tool criticised Mittal for supporting dowry, banned in India in 1961. Others, who tried the tool, praised him. In the video Mittal shared on Instagram, he said it was easy to calculate dowry back in the day, but "Now it has become extremely complicated. It depends on income, SIP, startup equity." The Shark Tank India judge said how people even judge based on the kind of smartphone people use, whether it is an Android phone or an iPhone. "To simplify all this, we integrated AI, MM and ChatGPT to create a Dowry Calculator which is known as DowrAI," he said in the video.
