In a remarkable turn of events, a man from Jharkhand reunited with his family after he went missing 15 years ago. Prakash Mahato, a resident of Koderma, was suffering from mental health issues. He disappeared one day while travelling to Kolkata for work. According to a report in News18, Mahato regained his memory upon hearing the word “Mahakumbh“.
Mahato worked for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and went missing on May 9, 2010. His family reported it to Markacho police, but despite thorough search operations, he could not be traced for over a decade.
Recently, Markacho police received a call from Sumit Sao, a hotel operator in Raniganj, West Bengal, who had been caring for a man for several years. Authorities then contacted Mahato’s family, who immediately travelled to Raniganj to verify his identity. The emotional reunion occurred on January 7 at the Markacho police station, the report said.
Sao, whose father had employed Mahato at their hotel 15 years ago, shared that Mahato was fondly called “wrestler” at the hotel, and had been living and working there ever since. Sao explained that his father had taken Mahato in, offering him shelter and employment, and over time, Mahato became a family member to them.
He went on to explain that Mahato regained his memory when his family was discussing a pilgrimage to the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. During the conversation, Mahato insisted that he needed to attend the Kumbh Mela, as his home was along the route. This led Sao to probe further, eventually finding Mahato’s whereabouts. He contacted local police, who then coordinated with the Markacho police station to reunite Mahato with his family.
