A video of a group of Italian singers jamming to their local song has unknowingly revealed the origins of a popular Bollywood song that starred Aamir Khan. Esteriore Brothers, a band comprising of four brothers, has recently posted a cover of L’Italiano, a 1983 superhit composed and performed by Toto Cutugno, an Italian singer-songwriter.
The composition of the song is very similar to Nasha Ye Pyar Ka Nasha Hai, from Amir Khan’s 2001 film Mann. It was composed by Sanjeev-Darshan and sung by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy.
Commenting on Esteriore Brothers’s video, an Instagram user wrote, “Is it just me who thought that the tune of this done is the one in India that goes “nasha ye pyaar ka nasha hai, ye meri baat yaaron maano…” from the movie Mann 😍😍”.
Over the years many Bollywood songs have been accused of being plagiarised from foreign music, such as romantic superhit Pehli Nazar from 2008 film Race was lifted from the 2005 Korean song Sarang Hae Yo by Kim Hyung Su.
Similarly, Hare Ram Hare Ram from Akshay Kumar’s superhit film Bhool Bhulaiyaa takes the beats from Korean song My Lecon performed by K-pop group JTL. Bappi Lahiri’s dance-pop hit Koi Yahan Naache Naache is said to be lifted from Video Killed The Radio Star, a 1980 song by The Buggles.
In April 2022, Pakistani artist Yasir Soharwardi’s song Roja Rakhunga was based on the composition of Kacha Badaam, a viral jingle originally created by Bhuban Badyakar, a native of West Bengal.
