Mass protests and street clashes have gripped Nepal, and videos of such incidents are being circulating widely online. What began as demonstrations led largely by Gen Z against government buildings and ministers’ homes has spiralled into scenes of chaos that even caught tourists and immigrants off guard.

Among those swept up were members of Street Stories, an Indian punk band who happened to be in Kathmandu as violence flared. The group has now safely crossed into India, sharing their relief in a short Instagram clip filmed while walking over the Indo-Nepal border.

“We finally reached India guys safely, we are reaching India, we are walking, we are crossing the border and we will be safe and sound after that,” one member can be heard saying. A text overlay read, “POV: Indian punk band escapes Nepal riot, safely crosses Indo-Nepal border.”

In the caption, the band wrote, “Good news guys!! We made it out of Nepal chaos, back on Indian soil. Thank you everyone for your prayers and support we are safe and on our way home.”

The post quickly blew up with comments from fans and fellow musicians. One wrote, “This is the most punk rock thing to happen to the most punk rock band in the world,” while another said, “Glad you made it with all the gear intact n in shape lads!” Nambie Jessica Marak, first runner-up of MasterChef Season 8, wrote: “So glad to hear that you guys are safely back home.”

The band’s escape highlights how dangerous the situation has become for outsiders. In a tragic turn, an Indian woman from Ghaziabad died after rioters set fire to a luxury hotel in Kathmandu. Rajesh Gola, visiting the Pashupatinath temple with her husband, reportedly fell and suffered fatal injuries while trying to flee the burning building.

Nepal protests

The turmoil in Nepal erupted on September 8, sparked by a youth-led movement calling for greater government transparency and the end of the social media blackout. What began as peaceful demonstrations quickly escalated into violence, with crowds attempting to storm parliament and setting fire to several government and private properties.
