Experiments with food are never-ending and weird combinations have quite often been frowned upon by netizens. Now, a Twitter user has come forth with the combination of South Indian idli with Maharashtrian favourite misal. The tweet drew the ire of netizens who expressed their disgust in the comments section.
Sharing a photograph of idli served along with misal, Twitter user Aditi wrote, “Idli hits better with Misal. Ngl.” A few users agreed with Aditi’s combination, while several others could rejected it outrightly.
A user commented, “This is disrespect to idli.” Another user wrote, “eew seriously how does anyone know eat misal specially misal pav.” A third user wrote, “Eat with whatever you like. I myself eat rava idli with a variety of things even aloo matar gravy. My kids yuks it but i love it!”
Maharashtrian delicacy misal pav includes sprouts curry topped with onions, tomatoes, lemon juice and coriander leaves. It is served with soft pav and in Marathi, the word ‘misal’ means mixture and the sprouts curry is called usal.
Meanwhile, the savoury rice cake, a popular breakfast food item in South India, is usually eaten with sambar or chutney. It is made by steaming a batter of fermented black lentils and rice.
