Mohali-born former municipal councillor Sahibee Anand has been appointed the North East England’s regional convenor of the Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party UK (OFBJP UK), reflecting the growing global engagement of the Indian diaspora. The appointment was announced by Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat, president, OFBJP UK, as part of strengthening regional leadership and grassroots outreach.
North East England has a rapidly growing Indian-origin population comprising professionals, students, and entrepreneurs. Anand was a former Mohali Municipal Corporation councillor and national executive member of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
Shekhawat said, “Anand’s understanding of governance and community organisation will strengthen diaspora participation.”
Responding to his appointment, Anand said, “Having worked at the grassroots level in Mohali, my focus will be on inclusive engagement and strengthening people-to-people ties between India and the UK.”

The Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) is a unit of the BJP that was formed 13 years ago to promote the party’s image in the Western world and protect the interests of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). It has established units in the United States, the UK, and Canada.
