Australia’s new Deputy High Commissioner to India Nicholas McCaffrey started his stint with a bang after he posted a video of himself driving an auto-rickshaw that had a Tricolour painted on its front wheel.

Greeting with folded hands, McCaffrey said, “I am thrilled to be starting my posting as Deputy High Commissioner working with our excellent High Commissioner Philip Green. Namaste.”

“Terrific to start as Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner in India, replacing the irrepressible Sarah Storey. Look forward to working with #TeamAustralia in India, under the leadership of @AusHCIndia Philip Green,” he wrote on X. He began the post by writing ‘Namaste India’ in Hindi.

“Welcome to Bharat!” a user commented. “Well begun is half done Excellency,” said another. “Well ur auto has tricolour and a good painting. Cool,” wrote a third. “Welcome to India. The embassy building looks really nice,” another person wrote.

Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green had recently posted a video on X showing photos of his travels to various Indian cities such as Varanasi, Jaipur, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.

“#Highlights: From the spiritual banks of #Varanasi to the architectural marvels of #Jaipur, the bustling streets of #Kolkata and the fervour in #Ahemdabad – every city I have visited has enriched my #AusomeIndia experiences. Look forward to many more! #IncredibleIndia,” he wrote.

Green was also in the stands along with Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles in Ahmedabad on November 19 when Australia defeated India by six wickets to clinch the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 for a record sixth time.
