If you thought the world of chai couldn’t get any more shocking, think again. There’s a new contender in town, and it’s stirring up quite a storm among chai lovers. Enter the Amul Butter Chai – a peculiar concoction that has chai aficionados divided into two camps: the adventurous and the traditionalists.

Served at Vicky Tea Stall in Amritsar, this unique concoction features a piping hot cup of tea with a lavish scoop of Amul butter, complemented by dry fruits and rose petals.

The online discourse surrounding Amul Butter Chai has gained momentum, with one user defending the unconventional blend by stating, “Don’t understand the criticism in the comment section. He added dry fruits and rose petals to the tea; these ingredients are common in Kashmiri chai. Although the addition of butter could be new? But overall looks good to me.”

A second wrote, “This is what was left to be seen, tell uncle to add some vegetables and fruits too.” A third responded, “You have ruined the fun of tea.” A fourth said, “Now death is definite.”

Conversely, traditional chai enthusiasts are expressing skepticism towards the idea of incorporating butter into their cherished beverage. This innovation in chai recipes is not the first to face resistance from Indian chai aficionados. Earlier, someone tried to brew a cup of rasgulla chai, which had your regular cup of tea with a rasgulla dunked in it — not just the chai lovers, this one had rasgulla aficionados also up in arms. Other experiments included egg and fruit chai, and one where tea was served with icecream, inviting tweets filled with disapproval. Unconventional food experiments have emerged as something of a genre on the internet, with the shocking mix and match guaranteeing eyeballs and views, if not people lining up for the taste of the food itself.
