In view of Winter Carnival Shimla 2025, Christmas and New Year celebrations, the district administration has implemented a special law and order plan in the state capital to ensure public safety and smooth management. Under the plan, Shimla city has been divided into five sectors, with overall supervision entrusted to Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma.
District Magistrate (Shimla) Anupam Kashyap issued office orders in this regard on Tuesday. He said that the number of tourists and local visitors increases significantly during Christmas and New Year festivities, necessitating a special arrangement to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement.
As per the orders, one administrative officer has been deputed in each sector, supported by police personnel. Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi has already made the necessary police deployments. The district administration’s priority is to provide a safe and secure environment for tourists while ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow. The special plan will remain effective from December 24 to January 2.
The District Magistrate further said that ambulances will be stationed at the entry points of Shimla. He appealed to residents and tourists to adhere to the guidelines issued under the special plan. He urged people to drive within the prescribed speed limits, avoid overtaking, and strictly refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sector-wise deployment
Under the special plan, Sector I includes Shoghi and surrounding areas, with Naib Tehsildar Shimla (Urban) Bhisham Singh Kanwar assigned as in-charge.
Sector II covers Mall Road, Ridge Ground, Scandal Point, Church, Lakkar Bazaar, Regal Cinema, Lift, CTO, Auckland, IGMC, Radisson Hotel, Jhansi Park, Sher-e-Punjab and adjoining areas of Lower Bazaar. SDM (Urban) Oshin Sharma has been appointed in-charge of this sector, assisted by Tehsildar Shimla (Urban) Narayan Singh Verma.
Sector III includes the areas under Police Station East and New Shimla, with Tehsildar Shimla (Rural) Sanjeev Gupta entrusted with responsibility.
Sector IV comprises Fun World, Galu, Lambidhar, Fagu, Sanjauli, Dhalli, Kufri, Mashobra, Chharabra, Chini Bangla and nearby areas. SDM Shimla (Rural) Manjeet Sharma has been appointed in-charge of this sector.
Sector V covers all traffic points, including the 103 Tunnel, ISBT Tutikandi, Old Barrier, Chakkar and surrounding areas. Naib Tehsildar Shimla (Rural) Chand Ram has been given charge of this sector.
