heatwaveSocial media was flooded with memes as UK announced a heatwave alert.

We Indians are used to getting roasted in over 40-degree heat and we are currently having a good chuckle at the UK’s idea of a “heatwave”. With temperatures in some Indian cities regularly sizzling above 50 degrees Celsius, the British announcement of a 26-degree “heatwave alert” has become the talk of social media.

In India, cities like Delhi become furnaces, and the humidity in Mumbai can leave you feeling like a steamed dumpling during the summers. So, when the UK newspaper The Mirror reported on X about a “blistering” 26°C heatwave, Indians couldn’t resist poking fun.

The post quickly went viral, with Indian users flooding the comments with their bemused and witty takes on what they consider sweater weather. IFS officer Parveen Kaswan joined the fun on social media, tweeting, “That is just two degrees above the default air conditioning setting in India. A pleasant weather it seems.”

His witty comment perfectly captured the mood of many Indians, who often crank their air conditioners to around 24 degrees Celsius just to cool off. For them, 26 degrees is practically a refreshing breeze compared to the blistering heat they endure regularly.

One user humorously noted, “News: UK declares heatwave at 26°… Meanwhile Delhi/NCR people: Dear sun ☀️☀️ your extra love is hurting Delhites.” This playful jab highlights the sweltering conditions in Delhi and NCR, where the summer sun feels more like a fiery bear hug than a gentle warmth.

Meanwhile, user @urviewsurnews shared a video, where a snippet from Adimanav by Round 2 Hell shows the vloggers Zayn, Nazim and Wasim fighting the cavemen. Here, the cavemen have a flag of the United Kingdom and get beaten by the main character in the video with an Indian flag saying, “Uniss-biss ka farak hai,” which is a Hindi idiom that translates to roughly, “There is no difference in the slightest.”

A third user posted, “UK has announced 26C as a heatwave. How did these people manage to come to India and rule us in our weather?” Reacting to this, one user wrote, “That’s why study of science, geography and history is important.” A second user replied, “And to think that I set my AC to 24 degrees. Just two below the heatwave!.” One more user commented, “I’ve always asked that question to my history teachers. Apparently, they only had one answer which is, they build hill stations for it.”
