Hotel employees in China were stunned after a guest finally checked out following a continuous stay of nearly two years, only for them to discover a room drowning in filth, trash, and human waste. Media reports claim the guest was deeply addicted to gaming and had rarely left the room throughout his stay.

When housekeeping entered after his departure, they were met with piles of garbage scattered across the space, from discarded food containers to used toilet paper and other waste. Nearly every surface in the room was buried under debris.

The washroom was said to be in an even worse condition. Reports describe a mound of used toilet paper stacked higher than the toilet itself, leaving the area extremely unhygienic. A table and two gaming chairs were also almost entirely swallowed by the accumulated trash.

A video of the shocking scene was first shared by British tabloid The Sun. According to the outlet, the hotel caters specifically to long-term esports players, offering private rooms fitted with high-performance gaming computers, high-speed internet, and professional gaming chairs.

Dexerto, a video game and entertainment news website, reported that hotel staff mentioned the man was rarely seen during his stay. He was described as a “hardcore gamer” who seemingly turned his room into a never-ending gaming session.

The Sun further claimed that cleaning and disinfecting the room took three full days. Even after that, hotel management said the damage was severe enough that major renovation work would be required before the room could be rented out again.

Clips of the room have since gone viral on X, sparking a wave of reactions. One user joked, “This is why Indian parents fear video games more than alcohol.” Another commented, “What kind of game has he been playing that he doesn’t even care about his own room? Put his name in the Guinness World Records, a very underrated Chinese gamer.”

A third person questioned the hotel’s role, writing, “I don’t think any decent hotel in any country will allow anyone to stay those many days without room cleaning. Few days is fine but not months & years.”

Another user reflected on the deeper issue behind the incident, saying, “The scariest part isn’t the addiction. It’s how easily everyone let him vanish and just be in this cocoon he created for himself, away from all human contact and even friction! Mind churns just thinking of the mental state that would have lead to this. I hope the gamer finds some help and is able to live a normal life, free of his addiction.”
