Delhi Police has found a pop-culture-powered way to warn people about phone scams, tapping into a viral social media format to spread the message. In a recent Instagram post, the department shared a reel inspired by Dhurandhar, using humour to talk about a very real digital threat.

The video, titled ‘Day 1 as scammer’, shows a man approaching unsuspecting phone users while pretending to help them install a mobile antivirus app. The clip then reveals how such fraudsters manipulate people into sharing one-time passwords (OTPs), which are later used to gain unauthorised access to bank accounts.

The concept borrows from the popular ‘Day 1 as a spy’ trend, which took off after the Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna-starrer Dhurandhar caught public attention.

The reel quickly gained traction online, with viewers praising Delhi Police for its creative approach. One user commented, “Delhi police instagram trend ka sahi istemal kr rahi h salute” (Delhi Police is using Instagram trends in the right way, salute).”

Another wrote, “Me to fan ho gai delhi police ki” (I have become a fan of Delhi Police). A third simply added, “Delhi police is the best.”

This isn’t the first time the department has leaned on trending content. Earlier this month, Delhi Police shared another reel inspired by the viral Dhurandhar dance sequence featuring Akshaye Khanna, this time to spread awareness about drug abuse. The idea behind these campaigns is clear: serious messages travel further when delivered through formats people already enjoy and recognise.

Dhurandhar has sparked multiple online trends since its release, making it a handy reference point for public messaging. The film’s standout track, ‘Sher-e-Baloch’ or FA9LA, composed by Bahrain-based rap artist Flipperachi, plays a crucial role in the movie’s impact.
