Gokul Sridhar recounted his experience on an “ultra-quiet” train in Finland, where a “very loud” Indian family disturbed other passengers.
In his post on X, Sridhar alleged that the Indian family was the only group in the compartment causing a disturbance. He explained that the family had their cabin doors open while speaking loudly in Hindi to someone on a video call. “I’m on a train from Lapland to Helsinki and there’s one family in the otherwise ULTRA QUIET carriage that’s being very loud, talking to someone over a video call. In Hindi. With their cabin doors open. We REALLY don’t get civic sense, do we?” he wrote.
“Ironically the video I was watching just now was about how speaking on the phone is very frowned upon in the Tokyo metro because it’s poor manners,” Sridhar added.

The post triggered a sea of reactions, with many users sharing similar experiences. “Same in Manc. I’m on a train to London on the quiet coach trying to get some sleep. Guess who’s talking on their phone loudly in the QUIET COACH,” a user wrote. “Have seen this a lot of times in London and yes, it does give out an awful impression,” another user commented.
“Well, no surprise there. We Indians have a reputation of being wretched, filthy and loud. No matter how many tincans we send in space. Thats not gonna change,” a third user reacted.
